Haircuts & Restyling

Maintenance Haircut — Keeping Your Existing Style

A maintenance haircut is intended for clients who already have a haircut they like and simply want to maintain its existing shape.

This generally involves trimming the ends, tidying the outline and refreshing layers that are already present.

For example, if you have a shoulder-length bob and want to maintain the same bob, this is a maintenance haircut.

If you already have layers and want them refreshed without changing the overall style, this would usually also be considered maintenance.

Book a maintenance haircut when:

  • You're keeping the same overall length and shape.

  • Your existing layers need tidying rather than redesigning.

  • You want to remove dry or split ends.

  • You're maintaining your current fringe or face-framing shape.

  • You're not requesting a significant change to your hairstyle.

Important: A maintenance haircut does not include creating a completely new shape or adding substantial new layers to previously one-length hair.

Restyle Haircut — Changing Your Hairstyle

A restyle involves changing the structure, shape or overall design of your haircut.

It requires more time because your hairdresser needs to assess how the new style will work with your hair density, texture, natural movement, face shape and styling routine.

A restyle isn't necessarily about cutting a large amount of hair. You could keep most of your length but still require a restyle if you're introducing a completely different shape.

Book a restyle when:

  • You're going from long hair to a bob or significantly shorter haircut.

  • Your hair is currently one length and you want layers added.

  • You're introducing substantial face-framing layers.

  • You want a butterfly-style haircut or a noticeably different layered shape.

  • You're changing from a blunt haircut to a heavily textured or layered style.

  • You want a completely new haircut rather than maintaining an existing one.

Example: If your hair is long and one length, but you want lots of layers and face framing while keeping the length, that is still a restyle.

Why Does a Restyle Take Longer?

Creating a new haircut involves additional consultation, sectioning, cutting, checking the shape and styling.

A maintenance haircut follows an existing structure, whereas a restyle involves designing a new one.

Please book the correct service to ensure sufficient time has been allocated.

Fringe Trims

A fringe trim is intended for maintaining an existing fringe.

Creating a new fringe, curtain bangs or extensive face framing may require a longer appointment.

Root Colour & Grey Coverage

Root Tint — Maintaining Your Existing Colour

A root tint is designed to colour the new hair growth at the roots while maintaining the existing colour through the lengths.

It is commonly used for covering grey regrowth or maintaining an established permanent hair colour.

For routine maintenance, a standard root tint generally covers approximately 1–2 cm of regrowth.

This is usually the amount of hair growth expected around four to six weeks after a previous colour appointment, although growth rates vary.

Book a root tint when:

  • Your roots have grown out and need recolouring.

  • You want to cover new grey regrowth.

  • You're maintaining the same colour you already have.

  • Your lengths and ends do not need a significant colour change.

Do not book a standard root tint when:

  • You have several months of regrowth.

  • You want to colour your entire head.

  • You want to go significantly lighter.

  • You have several different bands of colour.

  • You want to change your existing colour completely.

What If My Roots Are Longer Than 2 cm?

Longer regrowth can require additional colour, time or a different application technique.

This is particularly important when working with lighter shades, where longer regrowth can develop unevenly because of differences in scalp heat and existing colour.

If your regrowth is significantly longer than usual, please contact us before booking so we can advise on the correct service.

How Often Should I Book a Root Tint?

For clients covering grey hair, maintenance is commonly recommended every 4–6 weeks.

Some clients prefer more frequent appointments, particularly when their natural regrowth contrasts strongly with their coloured hair.

Others may be comfortable leaving longer between appointments.

Full Head Colour — Colouring Roots to Ends

A full head colour is different from a root tint because it involves applying colour through more of the hair, where appropriate.

This may be suitable when:

  • You want to deepen your existing hair colour.

  • Your colour has faded unevenly.

  • You want to change the overall tone.

  • You need colour refreshed beyond the roots.

However, full head colour does not automatically mean you can achieve any colour in one appointment.

Important: Permanent colour generally cannot reliably lift previously coloured dark hair to a much lighter shade. If you have dark artificial colour and want to become blonde, a lightening or colour correction service may be necessary.

Grey Coverage vs Grey Blending

Grey coverage and grey blending are not the same.

Grey coverage aims to conceal visible grey hair using an appropriate colour formulation.

Grey blending aims to soften the contrast between grey and pigmented hair, often creating a more gradual, natural-looking transition.

The most suitable option depends on the percentage of grey hair, your desired finish and how frequently you want to maintain your colour.

Highlights & Balayage

What Are Highlights?

Highlights involve lightening selected sections of hair to create brightness, contrast and dimension.

The amount of hair lightened depends on the placement, number of foils, technique and desired result.

Not all highlight appointments involve the same amount of work.

Partial Highlights — Targeted Brightness

Partial highlights are intended for small, specific areas of the hair, such as around the face or parting.

They're suitable when you only want a little extra brightness or need to refresh selected sections of existing highlights.

At Getty Space, a smaller partial highlight service may involve approximately up to 12 foils, depending on the booking option.

Book partial highlights when:

  • You want subtle brightness around your face.

  • You only need selected areas refreshed.

  • You want a small amount of dimension.

  • You do not need the whole head lightened.

Do not book partial highlights when:

  • You want your entire head noticeably lighter.

  • You want brightness throughout the underneath sections.

  • You need extensive correction of existing colour.

  • Your inspiration photograph shows heavy, all-over highlighting.

If your desired result requires more foils than the booked service allows, additional time and charges may apply, or a different appointment may be necessary.

Half Head Highlights — More Visible Brightness

Half head highlights generally focus on the top, sides and visible sections of the hair.

They can create noticeable lightness around the face and through the upper layers while retaining more depth underneath.

Book half head highlights when:

  • You want more brightness than a small partial highlight service provides.

  • You're maintaining an existing highlighted look.

  • You're happy to keep some darker hair underneath.

  • You want a dimensional result without highlighting every section.

Full Head Highlights — Overall Lightness

Full head highlights involve working throughout the head, including areas that may not be covered by a half head service.

This is generally more suitable when you want consistent brightness throughout your hair.

Book full head highlights when:

  • You want to become significantly brighter overall.

  • You want the underneath sections highlighted.

  • Your existing highlights need a more comprehensive refresh.

  • Your inspiration photograph shows widespread blonde throughout the hair.

Balayage — Soft, Blended Colour

Balayage is a personalised lightening approach used to create dimension and a softer transition between the natural root area and lighter sections.

It is often associated with lived-in blondes, dimensional brunettes and brighter ends.

However, balayage does not describe one fixed result. It can be subtle or dramatic, warm or cool, depending on your starting hair colour and desired finish.

Book balayage when:

  • You want a softer grow-out.

  • You prefer a blended root area.

  • You want dimension rather than uniform colour.

  • You like lighter mid-lengths and ends.

  • You want a personalised, lived-in colour effect.

Balayage vs Highlights — Which Should I Book?

Choose highlights if you want brightness distributed more consistently from closer to the roots, depending on placement.

Choose balayage if you prefer a softer, more blended effect with depth and dimension.

Some desired results require a combination of techniques, so your reference photograph and consultation are important.

Balayage Refresh vs Full Balayage

A balayage refresh is suitable when you already have balayage and only need selected areas maintained or brightened.

A full balayage appointment is generally required when creating a new look or making a more significant change.

Important: If you have previously coloured dark hair, significant regrowth, colour banding or an uneven starting point, the work may be more complex than a standard balayage appointment.

Will I Achieve My Inspiration Photo in One Appointment?

Not necessarily.

Your starting colour, previous colour history, hair condition and desired level of lightness all affect what is safely achievable.

Some transformations require multiple appointments.

We will prioritise realistic results and the condition of your hair rather than promising a result that may not be achievable in one session.

Toners & Colour Refresh

What Is a Hair Toner?

A toner is used to refine or adjust the tone of the hair, often after highlighting or lightening.

When hair is lightened, underlying warm pigments become visible. Depending on the starting level, these may appear red, orange or yellow.

A toner can help refine the final shade once the hair has been lightened sufficiently.

What Can a Toner Achieve?

Depending on your starting colour, a toner may help create:

  • Beige or creamy blonde.

  • Cooler blonde tones.

  • Soft golden blonde.

  • Pearl or neutral finishes.

  • A more balanced appearance where unwanted warmth is present.

What Can't a Toner Do?

A toner cannot perform the same job as a lightening service.

For example:

  • If your hair is dark orange, a toner cannot simply turn it platinum blonde.

  • If your hair is too dark, it may need additional lightening first.

  • If you have strong colour banding, a toner alone may not correct it.

  • If you want to become several levels lighter, you may need highlights or another lightening service.

How Long Does a Toner Last?

Toners are not permanent. Their longevity depends on the product used, hair porosity, washing frequency, heat styling and home care.

Many clients notice tonal changes over approximately 3–6 weeks, although some tones fade sooner.

Very porous hair may lose certain tones more quickly.

When Should I Book a Toner?

Book a toner when your hair is already light enough and you want to refine or refresh its tone.

If you're unsure whether your hair needs a toner or further lightening, please arrange a consultation.

Colour Correction

Colour correction is a more complex service intended for situations involving unwanted artificial pigment, uneven colour, banding or significant colour changes.

It may require:

  • An in-depth consultation.

  • A full colour history.

  • Strand testing.

  • Multiple applications.

  • More than one appointment.

Please do not book a standard toner or root tint if you need substantial colour correction.

Blow-Dries & Styling

Wash & Blow-Dry

A wash and blow-dry includes cleansing the hair followed by professional drying and styling.

Depending on your hair type and desired result, this may include a smooth finish, volume, movement or soft waves.

Blow-Dry Without a Wash

Where available, this service is intended for hair that is already clean and dry.

It does not include washing or drying hair from wet.

If you arrive with wet hair for an appointment that does not include washing and drying, additional time and charges may apply, or the service may need to be adjusted.

Does My Hair Colour Include a Blow-Dry?

No. A professional blow-dry is not automatically included with colour appointments.

Where specified, colour services include a rough dry so the result can be assessed.

A rough dry is not the same as a finished, styled blow-dry.

If you would like your hair professionally styled after your colour, please add the appropriate blow-dry service when booking.

The same applies if you want a haircut alongside your colour appointment. Both services must be booked so enough time is allocated.

Hair Botox, Keratin & Smoothing Treatments

Hair Botox

Hair Botox is a cosmetic hair treatment designed to improve the feel and appearance of the hair.

Despite the name, it does not involve Botox injections.

Depending on the product formulation, it may help improve softness, smoothness, shine and manageability.

It is not a permanent repair for damaged hair, and results vary depending on hair condition and aftercare.

Keratin & Smoothing Treatments

Keratin and other professional smoothing treatments are designed to help control frizz and make hair easier to manage.

Depending on the specific product, treatment and hair type, results may include:

  • Reduced frizz.

  • A smoother appearance.

  • Improved manageability.

  • Less time required for everyday styling.

  • Reduced volume or a change in the appearance of natural movement.

Will a Smoothing Treatment Make My Hair Completely Straight?

Not necessarily. Some treatments are primarily designed to reduce frizz, while others may produce a straighter-looking result.

The outcome depends on the formulation, application and your natural hair texture.

How Long Do Results Last?

Longevity varies significantly between products and hair types. Your treatment provider should explain the expected duration and recommended aftercare for the specific treatment being used.

Who Performs These Treatments?

Specialist smoothing treatments are available through independent hair professionals working at Getty Space.

Consultation requirements, pricing, suitability, appointment availability and aftercare should be confirmed with the relevant provider.

Before You Book

Why Choosing the Right Service Matters

Each appointment has a specific amount of time allocated.

Booking a maintenance haircut when you want a restyle, or a root tint when you require a full colour transformation, may leave insufficient time to complete the requested work.

Please read the service descriptions before booking.

Arrive With Clean, Dry Hair

For colour appointments, please arrive with clean, dry hair unless instructed otherwise.

We recommend washing your hair the evening before and avoiding heavy styling products, oils or excessive product build-up.

Wet hair can affect the application process and appointment timing.

Patch Testing

A patch test is required at least 48 hours before applicable colour appointments, subject to the relevant product and salon requirements.

Please arrange your test in advance. Without the required test, the colour service cannot proceed.

Strand Testing

A strand test may be required when considering significant lightening, colour correction or chemical services, particularly where previous colour history or hair condition could affect the result.

Bring Inspiration Photographs

Reference photographs are useful for showing the colour, placement, shape and overall finish you like.

However, the same photograph may require different services depending on your starting hair colour and condition.

Colour Results & Expectations

Hair colour is a process, particularly when lightening previously coloured hair.

We cannot guarantee that every inspiration photograph can be recreated in one appointment.

Your consultation will help establish what is realistically achievable.

Booking Additional Services

Please remember:

  • A toner does not automatically include a haircut.

  • A root tint does not automatically include a professional blow-dry.

  • A colour appointment does not automatically include a restyle.

  • A rough dry is not a professional styling service.

Please book additional services separately where required.

Deposits & Booking Policies

Deposits may be required for new clients or selected appointments.

Please review the applicable booking, cancellation and rescheduling policies before confirming your appointment.

Independent Hair Professionals

Getty Space is an independent hair and beauty collective.

Some services are provided by self-employed professionals who manage their own bookings, pricing and treatment policies.

Please confirm any provider-specific requirements with the professional responsible for your appointment.
